Halibut Sculptures
Halibut
conservation
According
to fisheries biologist, almost all large halibut over 100 pounds are
female fish. Most of these large females are successful “spawners”
which can lay millions of eggs. However, it is also these large fish,
which provide the biggest battles when caught on rod and line. As
modern fishermen, we are face with the challenge of enjoying our sport
and conserving the fish resource for future generations.
There is a new conservation concept, which can satisfy the
desires of the sportsman and the demands of conservation.
Teom Lim,
World Fish Carving Championship award winner, has created a limited
edition halibut sculpture to promote halibut conservation. These
sculptures were created as “catch
and release” incentives for several exclusive fishing lodges
on the Queen Charlotte Islands, Canada and fishing charters in Alaska.
Clients of these establishments are encouraged to practice “catch
and release” and are awarded one of the limited edition halibut
sculptures for their efforts. These sculptures are works of art and
may be displayed at home or in the office for all to see and admire.
The fishermen can be proud of the fact that they participated in a
conservation act.
You
do not need the expense or trouble to go to these establishments to
get a limited edition halibut sculpture. You can purchase them here or
from the artist www.fishartgallery.com.
This signed and numbered limited edition sculpture is priced at $95 US
plus shipping and applicable taxes. You will also be pleased to know
that part of the proceeds goes to fisheries conservation projects and
to fight for the rights of fishermen.
The staff of halibut.net
supports conservation of our fisheries and supports Tim Lim's fine
art. John L. Beath, owner of halibut.net was so impressed with Lim's
work, he purchased one of Lim's halibut sculptures.
